NPPS Distinguished Alumni

The North Platte Public School Foundation, in conjunction with the North Platte High School, is very excited to announce the winners of the 2012 NPHS Distinguished Alumni Award! A committee of Foundation Directors, NPHS Administrators and NPHS Alumni and community members begin the selection process in November, although the committee takes nominations year round. These outstanding alumni of NPHS will be honored in North Platte on Friday, March 30th, 2012 both at NPHS in the morning and at the Holiday Inn Express in the evening as part of the Foundation's Education After Hours event!

(Class of 1966), Outstanding Accomplishments in Education:


Paulette Stefka nominated Marge Beatty. Marge lives in Sutherland and is the Administrator of Educational Service Unit #16. For 22 years, Marge has served on teh Sutherland Board of Education, holding the office of President for 10 years. She has held state offices on NE Council of School Administrators and the NE School Boards Association. She is the current president of the NE Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council and past president of the Sutherland Mrs. Jaycees, the Ogallala Big Mac Kiwanis Club, the NE Aid Association for Lutherans, Branch 9213 and the NE Association of Special Education Supervisors. Marge has received numerous state and national awards and she exemplifies outstanding leadership in the field of education.

(Class of 1965), Outstanding Accomplishments & Recognition for his service to NP and the state of NE:

JoAnne and Wes Grady nominated Tom Hansen. According to Grady's, Tom is devoted to his family and to serving his community, his state, and the land on which we live. He has given his time, effort and resources to help our area and to keep us aware of how valuable our people and land are. Tom is highly regarded and respected as a State Senator by his fellow Senators and his constituents.

(Class of 1971), Outstanding Accomplishments in Medicine:


Dan McGuire and Bob & Irene Miller nominated Dr. Edward Raines. Ed is the son of North Platte surgeon Max Raines. By age 18, Ed received all of his pilot ratings and helped pay is way through college at UNL by running an air charter business, flying Big 8 football officials to game sites. Raines graduated from UNL and entered law school. He passed the bar exam and began working at a Lincoln Law firm on medical malpractice suits. According to Raines, "law was intellectually challenging but it was not really hands on, and I have always been a hands on person." Ed enrolled in medical school, becoming a leading heart surgeon. Still a commercially rated pilot, Raines is also an elected member of the Lincoln Airport Authority board. He is a non-practicing attorney, a member of the NE bar. Ed is currently the Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at BryanLGH East Medical Center, actively practicing as a cardio, thoracic, and transplant surgeon. After performing heart surgery on a Lincoln sprint car driver, Dr. Raines embarked on his latest hobby, becoming a rookie modified driver art Eagle raceway in Lincoln.
