Senator
Tom Hanson
Tom Hanson was born November 8, 1946, in North Platte, Nebraska. He is
a 1965 Graduate of North Platte High School. Tom graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
in 1970.
His wife, Linda, is a also a graduate of NPHS and UNL. They have two
sons, Marshall and wife Jamie, of Valley and Eric and wife Jill, of North Platte and five grandchildren.
Following graduation from UNL, Tom and Linda returned to NP to assist his family in the operation of their ranching business, Hansen 77 Ranch LLC. Tom is the current secretary/treasurer of the Hanson 77 Ranch.
Tom has been active in the North Platte community and the state of NE since his return to North Platte. He has served as a member and leader of many organizations and boards:
NEBRAKAland Days Board and Arena Chairman, Mid Nebraska Community Foundation Board, Nebraska State Historical Foundation, Tree Board for the city of North Platte, Nebraska Cattlemen President, Lincoln County Young Republican convention chairman, Host of the Cattleman’s Ball 1995, Messiah Lutheran Church Board member and Finance Chairman.
Tom was presented with the Dale Studley Award in 2008 and has received NE Children’s Home Society honors for several years. He was inducted into the UNL Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Ag Builders of
UNL.
Tom was elected to the Nebraska State Legislature in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. He has served on the Health and Human Services committee, Banking committee, Commerce and Insurance committee. In 2009, Tom began serving on the Appropriations committee, is Vice Chair of the Building and Maintenance committee and is Chairman of the Committees on Committees. He is a member of the Republican River Basin Water Sustainability Task Force.
